This introductory wheel-throwing course is designed to build a strong technical foundation through repetition, observation, and hands-on practice. Students are guided through the core principles of working on the pottery wheel, with an emphasis on understanding how clay responds to pressure, movement, and form.

Throughout the course, students develop essential skills including centering, pulling walls, shaping simple vessels, and basic trimming techniques. Instruction also introduces studio workflow, clay handling, and the relationship between process and finished form.

Rather than focusing on volume of output, this course prioritizes skill development and confidence at the wheel. In Week 4, students are introduced to underglaze and glazing techniques, followed by final glazing and completion in Week 5. To support a focused kiln process, students select two pieces for firing.

This course is ideal for beginners seeking a thoughtful and supportive introduction to wheel throwing, as well as those looking to strengthen foundational skills before advancing.
